Whistle Radio’s Nite Out with Mike Burns and Tara Donaghey is thrilled to have Lindsay Broughton appear at the Cornerhouse Restaurant on Main this Thursday night for the live broadcast. (7:30pm)

Country music singer/songwriter Lindsay Broughton has been making waves in the Canadian music scene, already receiving acclaim by her peers as a featured artist of the month by the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada (SOCAN), and securing a featured spot in Songwriter Universe Magazine; all before the release of her self-titled debut album. Signed to premiere Canadian independent label Curve Music with distribution through Sony Music, her career is on the rise, having already performed in front of thousands of fans, including the 2010 Canadian Country Music Awards “New Artist” showcase and at such iconic Toronto venues as the Horeshoe Tavern.

Lindsay’s self titled EP was released in February of this year. Her musical sound is [self] described as “fun modern-country” with a twist of pop fused /funky rock. Her first single “Holdin’ On To You” is a truly relatable song, “It’s about that person who gives you the strength and confidence to push forward and not give up, whatever it may be you’re struggling with,” describes Lindsay.

Lindsay is no stranger to composing and singing music, which has been her focus since she was 16 years of age. Her music writing abilities have led to opportunities for Lindsay to create and co-write songs with acclaimed international composers such as Kevin Savigar, Joel Feeney, Josh Osbourne and Trevor Rosen to name a few. Although honoured with the privilege to work with great music-industry veterans, Lindsay is keen on collaborating to create and mould the music and lyrics to be sung on her record.

Come Out and join us at the Cornerhouse or listen live at www.whistleradio.ca or 102.7fm on the dial.

This is an important announcement for every Whistle Radio member, show host, volunteer as well as everyone in the Whitchurch-Stouffville area regarding Whistle Radio.

Whistle Radio’s application to the CRTC for an increase in power and a new location for the transmitter has now been listed on the CRTC website for comments and submissions from interested parties. The deadline for these submissions is May 14th. Any listener or interested party who wishes to comment on this application may go onto the CRTC website to make their opinions known. The more submissions of support that the CRTC receives via this format, the greater the chances are that we will be granted our request.

The CRTC site address is www.crtc.gc.ca and the file number is “2011-1475-1 Whistle Community Radio” under the heading ‘All broadcasting proceedings open for comment’. The process is quite straight-forward and should only take a few minutes of your time. If you want to receive specific step-by-step instructions on how to submit your comments, please leave a message at the station including your email address and you will receive an email with the steps to follow (905) 640-0311. We appreciate the ongoing support from the entire community and welcome as much additional support via this process as possible. This application is very important for Whistle Radio and the community.

With a favourable decision from the CRTC, Whistle Radio will then be able to reach all residents and businesses within the boundaries of the town of Whitchurch-Stouffville. This increase will allow our signal to reach all of the town both for our 24/7 broadcasting and to be the emergency broadcaster in the event of a major crisis. Can we count on your submission signifying your support?

Thank you!!!

Keep listening to whistle radio for further updates or check on our website www.whistleradio.ca.

In 2011, PJ Wilson, released his first single and three-track E.P. titled “Preface.” It encompass songs that highlight the artist he is. The songs have creative lyrics that illustrate positive portraits about the subject matter in question. The material focuses on relationships, love, and men and women getting to know each other in this whole men-are-from-Mars-women-are-from-Venus world we live in. His message is one of mutual respect and harmony for all. These lyrics combined with catchy instrumentals will entice you, the listener, to stay with him on this musical journey and the chapters that he wishes to write. Nite Out’s Mike & Tara are proud and excited to host PJ at the Cornerhouse this Thursday night at 7:30. Stop in and say hi or listen in to whistle radio.ca.

Whistle Radio’s Broadcasting team is very proud to have been able to broadcast not only the entire Stouffville Spirit hockey season but it’s final championship game. Rick Callaghan (Red the Stash) along with a great support group including Brenda Masson and Tyler VanVegal have been there to bring our listeners a play by play report of each and every game.

Friday Night at Iroquois Park Arena in Whitby the Stouffville Spirit won the OJHL championship against the Whitby Fury bringing home the Frank L. Buckland Cup. In an intense overtime period, the Spirit won 4 – 3 with a timely goal from forward Brandon Gaudette.

The Spirit trailed 3 – 1 in the third period with just under a minute to go when the Spirit pulled goalie Jon Hall for an extra attacker. With 44 seconds left on the clock, Alex Botten scored. Hall remained on the bench and the Spirit came back to tie the game with 11 second remaining.

In overtime, with just over 10 minutes of play, and a bouncing puck in the slot, Gaudette managed to slip the puck into the net off a rebound.

The Spirit will represent the OJHL at the 2012 Dudley-Hewitt Cup in Thunder Bay from April 17 – 21. The tournament opens on April 17 as the Spirit play the SIJHL host Thunder Bay North Stars at 7:30pm.

In 2005 Whistle Radio began broadcasting the Spirit games in Stouffville and streaming them on the internet for the whole world to hear.

This year for the first time, Whistle Radio’s Red “The Stash” Callaghan and the “Hockey Team “undertook to broadcast all of the games on the Spirit schedule – home and away. What an undertaking! We even did our first ever broadcast from the U.S. when the Spirit took on the Buffalo Junior Sabers in Buffalo New York. On Top of running his own automotive business in town, Rick’s hockey schedule was the same as the players. The only difference is that when the Spirit players are practicing on the ice, Rick and his team are preparing, fixing, checking and organizing a 120 pound box of remote access broadcasting equipment, advertising, scripts, and stats. With the help of the “Hockey Team”, Whistle Radio has successfully broadcast from every arena that the Spirit play in that has internet access.

And, what a season it’s been! The Spirit finished in second place over all in the regular season and advanced to the division finals where they defeated the Newmarket Hurricanes in game seven of the series and won the North Division Championship. They are now playing the Georgetown Raiders in the Ontario Junior Hockey League North-West Semi-Final Series.

From Huntsville to Buffalo; from Stouffville to Georgetown. This has been a great season of OJHL hockey and Whistle Radio is proud to continue bringing you all the action live.
